A Message From The Humans At Frame Your Pets

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie the Dalmatian. Eddie (Edson) started his amazing journey with Brenda the Human when she purchased him outside a big-box retail store in Penticton, BC. He was the last puppy in the basket and apparently once he and she locked eyes - it was a done deal. Edson spent his first couple of years on a ranch with upwards of six other dogs, horses, chickens and assorted other farm animals. George the Human entered Eddie's life early having been a friend of Brenda the Human for many years.

Eddie was introduced to George shortly after Brenda had picked him up. It wasn't until 2000 when George and Brenda joined households when Eddie, Yogi and Boo Boo met Magnum the Cat. The foursome kept the Humans entertained and occupied. Boo Boo, a female Australian Shepherd/Border Collie cross, passed in January 2003 with a rare form of canine cancer. The dynamics of the household changed dramatically with Yogi taking on the 'senior' role in the family after her sister had passed.

Yogi contracted canine diabetes and passed in April 2008. She gained international attention through the Frame Your Pets family and was part of a campaign used to raise the awareness of canine diabetes. Once again, the dynamics of the household shifted and Eddie was lost at first without his close friend, Yogi. Eventually Eddie and Magnum the Cat warmed up to each other. The two were used in a short-lived 'Frame Your Pets' pet photography program which never really caught on, however, the Frame Your Pets blog did continue with new adventures between Eddie, Magnum and the Humans.

Eddie has not been well for quite some time. He spent close to a year with a misdiagnosed pinched nerve in his back. Once it was properly treated he was just about his old self again, but age was catching up with him. In the past few months his appetite had changed drastically to the point where one day he'd eat something but the next day turn his nose up at the same food. Brenda the Human took him to the vet yesterday (October 27, 2010) and blood tests revealed his renal failure had progressed from a level 1 earlier in the year to a level 4 (it is measured on a scale of 5). She could not bear to watch him starve to death and did the humane thing.

While will still miss Boo Boo and Yogi, Eddie will be a particularly hard dog to get over. We thank you for your support and kind words. Frame Your Pets will continue as we are grooming Magnum the Cat for the role. If she wants to do it. Stay tuned!
