A Message From The Humans At Frame Your Pets

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie the Dalmatian. Eddie (Edson) started his amazing journey with Brenda the Human when she purchased him outside a big-box retail store in Penticton, BC. He was the last puppy in the basket and apparently once he and she locked eyes - it was a done deal. Edson spent his first couple of years on a ranch with upwards of six other dogs, horses, chickens and assorted other farm animals. George the Human entered Eddie's life early having been a friend of Brenda the Human for many years.

Eddie was introduced to George shortly after Brenda had picked him up. It wasn't until 2000 when George and Brenda joined households when Eddie, Yogi and Boo Boo met Magnum the Cat. The foursome kept the Humans entertained and occupied. Boo Boo, a female Australian Shepherd/Border Collie cross, passed in January 2003 with a rare form of canine cancer. The dynamics of the household changed dramatically with Yogi taking on the 'senior' role in the family after her sister had passed.

Yogi contracted canine diabetes and passed in April 2008. She gained international attention through the Frame Your Pets family and was part of a campaign used to raise the awareness of canine diabetes. Once again, the dynamics of the household shifted and Eddie was lost at first without his close friend, Yogi. Eventually Eddie and Magnum the Cat warmed up to each other. The two were used in a short-lived 'Frame Your Pets' pet photography program which never really caught on, however, the Frame Your Pets blog did continue with new adventures between Eddie, Magnum and the Humans.

Eddie has not been well for quite some time. He spent close to a year with a misdiagnosed pinched nerve in his back. Once it was properly treated he was just about his old self again, but age was catching up with him. In the past few months his appetite had changed drastically to the point where one day he'd eat something but the next day turn his nose up at the same food. Brenda the Human took him to the vet yesterday (October 27, 2010) and blood tests revealed his renal failure had progressed from a level 1 earlier in the year to a level 4 (it is measured on a scale of 5). She could not bear to watch him starve to death and did the humane thing.

While will still miss Boo Boo and Yogi, Eddie will be a particularly hard dog to get over. We thank you for your support and kind words. Frame Your Pets will continue as we are grooming Magnum the Cat for the role. If she wants to do it. Stay tuned!

Blue Thief!

Brenda the Human says she's been putting peanuts outside and the bird she calls a Steller's Jay keeps coming and taking them. I'm pretty sure he's stealing them because once they are gone the Humans put more out. I'll have to tell them what I think is happening so they quit leaving peanuts outside.

Noisy Neighbour!

Brenda the Human has made a new friend. Apparently it's someone named 'Jay' or 'Jason' and he makes a lot of noise until the Humans put some food out for him. They usually do the same for me as well.

Family Portrait - October 2010

We are one big happy family! The Humans wanted to get some photos the other day and included me in them. I didn't even had to whine about being left out - they just got me up onto the swing and snapped away! It was fun.

I'm Liking This!

Brenda the Human is so happy that I can use the new deck but wants to put railings around the open end so I don't get any ideas about jumping off of it and chasing deer or marmots out of the yard. I think she could have a pretty good idea there!

Steps Just For Me!

The Humans are putting up another deck and they made sure the steps are easy for me to get up and down since I'm getting a little older. The project is just about finished and I already like it!

Master Of My Domain!

The Humans have been busy these past few days as the seasons begin changing. I've even noticed it's not been as warm outside as it used to be. Or at least it's a whole lot cooler in the mornings and cools down pretty fast in the evenings. The Humans have been working on some construction on the house, so I've only been able to see parts of it when I'm in the yard. So far I can't quite tell what there are doing, but it does look pretty interesting!

A Little Human Pointed At Me!

Brenda the Human was keeping a pretty close eye on me while I was watching this smaller version of the Humans I live with. It was about as curious about me as I was of it, but I wasn't interested enough to go and sniff it. We stayed in this place for a little while until the Humans bought something and we went elsewhere. I spent a lot of time in the car, but it was a lot of fun to get out of the house for a while!

Fun In The Sun!

The Humans were pretty kind to me today. They have been pretty careful of me lately as my stomach has been giving me problems and I don't eat the same things two days in a row, so we went for a car ride. I got to see a lot of new things and smell a lot of new smells. I even got a chance to see some different people and these giant orange things that seemed to be in the way everywhere I walked.
